Blessings in a Backpack – Clarkston

Blessings in a Backpack-Clarkston is a “neighbor-helping-neighbor” program that is designed to help bridge the gap of the nutritional needs of children from Clarkston Community Schools. Each week, we distribute backpacks filled with non-perishable food for the weekend to students that qualify for the Federal Free and Reduced Lunch program. The goal of Blessings in a Backpack is to keep these students from going hungry on the weekends and remove barriers to academic success.

Currently, we send home 350 backpacks per week during the school year and the program has been established in every school in the Clarkston Community School district. Raising funds is vital to the life of our program. Currently, we are able to feed one child for the entire school year for $100. Every penny counts! This year with the generous donation from Clarkston State Bank Back Roads Marathon we have added items to enhance the nutritional value of the BIAB menu. Thanks to your donations,  Horizon Organic milk has been added to the weeks that the students take cereal home. On a weekly basis we have added protein bars for the Jr. High and High school students. None of this would be possible without the support of our volunteers, donors and sponsors.

Thank you Clarkston State Bank Back Roads for your support and helping us bring awareness to the need of food for the children of Clarkston. Your partnership has been a true blessing for the students that we support.
